Have you ever wondered why there is no swimming allowed at Apollo Beach? There are actually a few reasons why swimming is not permitted at this particular beach.
Checkout this video:
Lack of Lifeguards
One reason why there is no swimming at Apollo Beach is because there is a lack of lifeguards. The U.S. Lifesaving Association (USLA) recommends that all beaches have a minimum staffing ratio of 1 lifeguard per 25,000 square feet of assigned bathing area during the busiest times of the year. They also recommend a minimum ratio of 1 lifeguard per 75,000 square feet during the slowest times of the year. Because Apollo Beach does not have any lifeguards on duty, it is not safe for swimming.
Water Quality
The water quality at Apollo Beach is not suitable for swimming. The beach is located near the mouth of Tampa Bay, where fresh and salt water mix. This mixing can cause changes in water quality, which can make the water unsafe for swimming. The Florida Department of Health monitors the water quality at Apollo Beach and posts signs to notify visitors when the water is not safe for swimming.
Cost
The cost of swimming at Apollo Beach is simply too high for most people. The annual fee for a family of four to swim at Apollo Beach is $1,600. That’s more than double the cost of swimming at other beaches in the area.
